Engineered Thermal Systems

Farnam has always had to think in terms of systems when developing custom heating solutions for clients. Now we have taken our many years of knowledge of heaters and their interface with controls, blowers, safety devices, and processes and leveraged this into a thriving business. We deign, develop, and produce Integrated Systems for customers. Here's a couple of examples:

CT Scanner

One of the leaders in the CT Scan market told us that they could achieve much more consistent and reliable image quality if the entire CT Scanner where kept at a constant and predictable temperature range.

Farnam listened to the objectives and requirements. Then we designed a thermal system to address the customer's wish list. They wanted everything packaged into a module that could fit into the only remaining space in this instrument.

The module contains a very quiet and powerful blower that is designed to circulate the air in the instrument four times per minute. The heater has to be three phase and the control package we integrated holds the internal environment at plus/minus 2°F. The safety system involves two layers of over-temp protection integrated with a pressure switch.

The project met or exceeded all goals - it significantly improves performance of the CT Scan, came in under budget, and has entered its production phase.

Chicken Wrapper

A respected Packaging Equipment Company was designing a new shrink wrapping machine. They saw this as an opportunity to improve their thermal system. So, they wanted to involve a partner who could create, prototype, and test a higher performance system with improved reliability and lower cost.

Farnam created a system that reduced their costs by 30% while it improved productivity by 33% and this new system is so much more robust it is hard to measure. But they can measure much higher satisfaction from their customers.

This system integrates a blower and heater and thermocouple inside an insulated housing that can be washed down easily. With durability, it travels back and forth at high speeds day and night as it provides a critically uniform temperature and flow profile enabling the machine to shrink films precisely in very little time.

New Flow Torch™ Standard Product Family

Farnam introduces Flow Torch™ standard air heaters designed to handle large airflow's. These low mass heaters offer minimal obstruction to airflow and this means high flows are possible with low pressure and lower cost blowers. Relatively open design is very efficient and provides fast heat up and cool down.

Initially we are offering a couple of diameters but will expand this to about 5 general platforms.

New low cost Control Cube:

We offer a Farnam designed and built control in 10 amp or 15 amp versions for 120 thru 240 volt application. This compact and responsive device is ideal for controlling our air heaters and represents a very good value.
